First touch to MoveOnBoot

This topic is to read for everyone who is totally new to EMCO MoveOnBoot and want to understand the work flow of boot actions management using this tool. Here we'll guide you through all the steps to be performed with MoveOnBoot to reach the goal – it will take only several minutes of your time but help you to perform boot actions management without any misunderstanding in future. In this example we'll delete a folder and rename a file on your file system using the MoveOnBoot Boot Actions Wizard.

To open the Boot Actions Wizard click the Boot Actions Wizard button from the Boot Actions Ribbon group. The welcome page is shown to introduce the wizard to you – read the information carefully and press Next button to continue. Select Delete from action type and Folder as action target. pic-01 Then a folder to be deleted should be specified in the Source field of the Configuration group - to browse for a folder click ... button on the right of the editor. Click Finish button to proceed.

After the wizard is closed you can see that the appropriate folder deletion is added to the Boot Actions pane, including all folder children. pic-02

So the folder is scheduled for deletion and we are ready to ask Windows to rename a file on its next boot. Open the Boot Actions Wizard again, switch to the next step and select Rename form action type and File as action target. Provide the required data to the Configuration group – you can browse to a source file using ... button on the right of the Source editor. pic-03 After providing the boot action configuration press 'Finish' button to proceed.

You can enable the Restart Windows option to restart the underlying operating system after scheduling rename operation.

If you have not enabled the Restart Windows option, after the wizard is closed you can see that the a new entry is added to boot actions pane, representing a file renaming operation. pic-04

Reboot your Machine to see that the changes specified took effect. To undo those changes click the Revert Changes button within the Boot Actions Ribbon group – this will cancel the operations you've added so that they won't be performed on the next boot.
